Environment
The book industry is plagued by environmental issues, drawing on non-renewable resources like oil and gas while contributing to deforestation. These books are rarely recycled, and every year the United States sees over three hundred million books sent to landfills, each an unfortunate symptom of unsustainable habits across the country. This damage is exacerbated by popular prep book brands like Barron's, Kaplan, and Princeton Review. As exam season came to a close, our team was disturbed by the number of people excited to throw away or even burn their slightly used and unused materials. By their nature, SAT, Regents, and AP resources are seen as expendable, barely ever reused or donated like fiction books. Traveling Pages combats this wasteful practice, finding places for students to donate their books instead of throwing them to the landfill. We strongly believe that students should be conscious of their environmental footprint and that reusing prep books is a simple, eco-friendly step towards dismantling waste in the publishing industry.
